Scius was engaged by the Vancouver Regional Construction Association to research and produce an easy to digest resource to help them engage with their members, and industry at large, round what British Columbia's construction workforce of tomorrow might look like: they key skills that will be needed, the education and training required, and the opportunities for which we should be ready.
A key objective of the work was to identify barriers to labour growth in BC and to gauge industry readiness for zero energy, low carbon buildings. In particular, we identified gaps in skills and available training necessary to meet the BC Energy Step Code and forthcoming energy and emissions regulations such as the Building Electrification Roadmap and Retrofit Codes. We also explored communication tools to help increase the uptake of training and education initiatives as well as how to support better integration of relevant expertise and skills along the entire building project delivery process.
Funding was provided by BC Hydro.
